Setting up your workspace

Workspaces are the top-level containers in Arka where teamwork happens. They allow you to isolate different projects and manage exactly who has access to your data.

The Workspace Tab

To manage your workspaces, click the **Briefcase icon** in the left sidebar. From here, you can switch between existing workspaces or create a new one.

  • Personal Workspace: Every account starts with a private, default workspace for individual notes.
  • Team Workspaces: Create dedicated spaces for specific departments, clients, or side projects.

Roles & Permissions

Arka uses a granular permission system to ensure your data stays secure. When inviting members, you can assign one of the following roles:

  • Owner: Full control over the workspace, including name changes, member management, and the ability to delete the workspace.
  • Admin: High-level access to manage content and invite new members, but cannot delete the workspace.
  • Editor: Can create, edit, and move notes and notebooks within the workspace.
  • Viewer: Read-only access—ideal for sharing progress with stakeholders without risking accidental changes.

Workspace Communication (Posts)

Each workspace features an integrated **Posts** feed. This is your team's internal bulletin board for announcements and updates.

  • Real-time Updates: Post messages that are instantly visible to all workspace members.
  • Rich Media: Attach files, images, or links to your posts to provide full context.
  • Scoped Discussions: Keep conversations relevant by posting directly in the workspace where the work is happening.

Isolation & Security

Security is built into the workspace architecture. Each workspace is a cryptographically isolated environment.

  • Shared Keys: Workspace content is encrypted using a unique symmetric key shared only among authorized members.
  • Data Privacy: Notes in one workspace are never accessible or visible to members of another, even if they belong to the same organization.
